We Are Making a Difference: Contract Negotiations

Our AFSCME Maryland Bargaining Team: We're Winning Workplace Improvements.

Across the state thousands of AFSCME MD members wore “WE DEMAND DIGNITY” buttons to show our support for our Bargaining Team and we are making a difference in negotiations. We have reached tentative agreements on over a dozen workplace improvements.

Here are just a few wins we can expect when we ratify our contract:

Fair Pay for the Work We Do.
With a tight budget many of us pitch in and do work above and beyond our job description. When we ratify our contract we will be fairly compensated for it. And when we perform work that is two pay levels above our current pay grade we will earn 12% more.

Use of Personal Leave is a Private Matter.
We work hard to provide vital services to Maryland taxpayers. We have personal leave to take of our families. When we request to take personal leave our supervisors will not be able to ask why we need to take it.

We Can’t be Discriminated Against for Having a Family!
We made it clear in our union contract that employees should not be discriminated due to pregnancy.

We’ll Have a Strong Voice in Our Work Schedules.
Supervisors will not be able to institute a new “flex schedule” without our OK. If we already have a “flex schedule” management cannot take it away without our mutual consent. As a result of negotiations, employees will receive the difference in overtime paid and what it should have been for this past fiscal year in one lump sum.
