SB467 Moves onto the House!
Last week, AFSCME Local 3167 members from the Department of Juvenile Services fought to expand employee representation on the Department of Juvenile Services Advisory Board. The Senate voted 47-0 to pass this Legislation expanding an important seat for employees.
The DJS Advisory Board meets regularly throughout the year and advises the Secretary of Juvenile Services regarding policies and programs to improve juvenile services across the state. The Board participates in planning the development and use of available resources to meet the needs of the department.
The addition of valuable employee perspectives will help the Board fulfill its duties and add perspective from front line staff. This Legislation will add two additional seats for AFSCME members. Our members are dedicated advocates for at risk youth and are committed to taking every opportunity to positively influence the direction of their agency.
This bill will continue and be heard in the Judiciary committee of the House of Delegates. Stay tuned for more important updates and if you haven't already, please RSVP for our Maryland Deserves a Fair Budget action on March 9th.
