BALTIMORE, MD – AFSCME Maryland President Patrick Moran today released the following statement in response to a state audit of the Department of Juvenile Services which found that the agency lacked oversight for spending on youth care services:
“How the state chooses to spend money is a reflection of priorities. Due to the state’s mismanagement, the department improperly held on to nearly $10 million – funds that could have been used for youth care services across Maryland.
“The findings in this audit reflect what our union has said about this administration for years: Governor Larry Hogan’s mismanagement of our state has real consequences and puts Marylanders at risk.
“Hogan has allowed a culture of mismanagement in the state to go unchecked, resulting in some of our state’s most vulnerable children being deprived of the resources they need to live healthy and productive lives.
“These findings are unacceptable and show a lack of accountability and leadership from the top.”
