Become an Election Judge

An election judge plays a very important role in the election process. Election judges work as a team to ensure a fair and accessible election. In order to be an election judge, you must be:

  • 16 years or older (if you are 16 you must have a parent or guardian's permission)
  • Registered to vote in Maryland
  • Physically and mentally able to work at least a 15-hour day
  • Willing to work outside your home precinct
  • Able to sit and/or stand for an extended time
  • Able to speak, read and write English

If you are a state employee serving as an election judge, you can receive administrative leave for your service using this form. University System of Maryland employees are also eligible to receive paid administrative leave for your service.
