As of September 30, 2024, Maryland's heat stress standard (COMAR 09.12.32) mandates that all employers statewide protect employees from heat hazards when the heat index reaches or exceeds 80°F. This regulation applies to both indoor and outdoor workplaces.

Below are resources from our most recent workshop covering the new regulations:

Webinar on Heat Safety Standards

Join this webinar to learn about Maryland's new heat safety standards that went into effect last fall. Learn more about your rights and protections when it comes to heat, what employers are required to provide in terms of heat stress prevention, and best practices to keep yourself and your coworkers safe when the heat index is high (including outdoors, in non-air-conditioned spaces, or worksites with radiant heat sources).

Guest speakers will include an expert from AFSCME's Health and Safety Team and a representative from Maryland Occupational Safety and Health (MOSH).
