Jack Hughes

Jack Hughes currently serves as President of AFSCME Maryland. He was unanimously elected to the position by AFSCME Maryland’s Executive Board during AFSCME’s 47th International Convention and succeeds Patrick Moran, who served as AFSCME Maryland’s president for 14 years.

A military veteran, Jack brings extensive union organizing and leadership experience. He spent 15 years as a member of the United Auto Workers (UAW) as an elected Shop Steward and eventually President of UAW Local 354, representing workers at the Dresser Wayne plant in Salisbury, MD. He then went on to serve 7 years with Maryland’s Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services at the Eastern Correctional Institution (ECI). He attained the rank of Lieutenant and served as President of AFSCME Local 3478, representing correctional officers at ECI.

For the last two decades, Jack has served as a staff organizer and field representative with AFSCME Maryland, representing union members across the Eastern Shore. He has been a unifying force for our union on the Eastern Shore and was most recently an integral part of our campaign to protect the collective bargaining rights of City of Salisbury workers.

Jack was born and raised in Salisbury, MD and enjoys spending time with his daughter and his grand-dog.
