HARFORD COUNTY, Md. – On November 18th, the Harford County Council voted 6-1 to pass Bill No. 25-012, which will enable grievance arbitration for AFSCME Local 1802 and other local unions that represent County employees.

Grievance arbitration is an important tool to hold management accountable when they violate union contracts. With this bill, unionized County employees have the opportunity to have binding decisions made and enforced by an unbiased and equitable mitigator, resolving disputes under the memorandum of agreement with the County administration.

AFSCME Maryland is proud to stand behind County employees in support of this Bill. Despite facing a challenge from County Executive Bob Cassilly, we will continue to support Locals' organizing efforts and support the fight for this bill to get it across the finish line.

“Last Tuesday was a big win for Harford County employees and AFSCME members. Members of Local 1802 advocated tirelessly for this bill – and we are proud to stand with them. The votes are on our side, and we will make sure that if Cassilly vetoes the bill, we will override it,” said Dan Griffith, Senior Equipment Operator.
